Kaman tacks on $23M fuze order

Bloomfield aerospace manufacturer Kaman said a customer has placed a $23 million follow-on order for its joint programmable fuzes, which militaries use to program bombs in flight.

Kaman said the buyer is a commercial customer, but did not identify the company. In May, Kaman announced $68 million in new commercial orders for the electro-mechanical arming devices.

The order announced Thursday was not a part of the company’s long-term contract with the U.S. Air Force, which brought $90 million in fuze orders last year. Kaman also sells fuzes to 26 other countries.

The company builds the fuzes in Middletown and Florida. It expects to deliver as many as 26,000 fuzes this year.
