A division of Bloomfield-based aerospace manufacturer Kaman Corp. announced Monday that it was selected to build a logistics unmanned aircraft system, or UAS, prototype for the U.S. Marine Corps.
As part of the contract, Kaman Air Vehicles will build a funded military version of its KARGO UAV, an unmanned aircraft vehicle that the company calls a “purpose-built autonomous medium-lift logistics vehicle.” Once the prototype is constructed, the KARGO UAV will complete a “Field User Capability Assessment” in a test environment.
Kaman’s KARGO UAV carries up to 800 pounds of payload and is designed to operate in austere environments, the company said. The company began developing the aircraft last year.
