Bloomfield manufacturer Kaman Corp. said it’s landed a $70 million contract with the U.S. Air Force.
Under the contract, Kaman will supply electro-mechanical munitions parts called Joint Programmable Fuzes (JPF), which can be used to program targeted bombs in flight.
Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-2014, which follow-on options that could extend the deal to 2017.
Kaman said it’s been the Air Force’s sole supplier of the fuzes since 2002.
Kaman shipped nearly 28,000 fuzes to the U.S. government buyers in its most recent fiscal year, ended Dec. 31. The reported a total JPF backlog at the time of $65.5 million.
