Kaman has $10M for German ball-bearing plant

Bloomfield aero- and industrial-parts maker Kaman Corp. is investing $10 million to expand its European production of miniature bearings for aerospace, medical and industrial applications.

Kaman said Tuesday it secured land in Würzburg, Germany, to break ground in 2020 on a new facility to open two years later to support the expansion of its bearing maker Gebr. Reinfurt GmbH & Co. KG (GRW).

Kaman acquired GRW in Nov. 2015 and, operating as part of the Specialty Bearings & Engineered Products division, has since seen demand for bearings climb, said Michael Wilhelm, GRW’s executive managing director.

GRW operates out of two state-of-the-art production facilities in Rimpar, Germany, and Prachatice, Czech Republic.
