Bloomfield’s Kaman Corp. says its aerospace division procured $68 million worth of orders for more joint programmable bomb fuzes from the U.S. and its allies, meaning more work the next two years for its Middletown plant where they are made.
Fuzes from these orders are due for delivery this year and next, Kaman said.
The fuzes enable pilots of the F-15, F-16, B-52 and other warplanes to arm their bombloads mid-flight, Kaman said.
Kaman Aerospace President Greg Steiner said the orders sustain its fuze output for the rest of this year, as well as pushes Kaman’s overall program backlog past $200 million and deliveries into 2017.
Kaman has been the sole provider of fuzes to the U.S. Air Force since 2002. It also makes fuzes in Orlando, Fla.
