Judge seals parts of Hartford mayor report

A Connecticut judge has ordered parts of the report on his investigation of corruption allegations against Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez sealed from public view.

Superior Court Judge Dennis Eveleigh wrote in a decision released today that information in the report would affect the right to a fair trial for people mentioned in the document.

The judge says some portions can be made public unless someone files an appeal in three days.

Perez was charged in January with receiving a bribe and other crimes related to his hiring of a city contractor to renovate his home. A trial is set to begin in October.

A lawyer for The Hartford Courant, which argued that the judge’s entire report should be released, declined to comment today.
