Judge denies Magellan’s attempt to halt Ariz. contract

Avon’s Magellan Health Services continues to fight the loss of a mental health services contract in Maricopa County, Ariz.

The company said a superior court judge on Friday denied its motion asking the court to delay implementing the contract until after Magellan’s appeal to the state agency that oversees the contract is completed.

Magellan, which held the contract since 2007, lost a renewal last year to Maricopa Integrated Health Systems. The renewed contract could be worth more than $2 billion, depending on a Medicaid expansion, Arizona newspaper The Republic reported.

Magellan’s appeal before the Arizona Department of Administration continues and won’t be affected by the court ruling, Magellan said.

Magellan also has a lawsuit pending against MIHS alleging the company wrongfully used confidential and proprietary information received from Magellan in connection with the bid.
