Jordan’s Furniture makes a March Madness sales bet on UConn

Jordan’s Furniture is known for its wacky marketing campaigns, but fans of the University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams may view its latest as a slam dunk.

Under Jordan’s latest promotion, called Play in the Finals 2026, if both UConn teams play in their respective 2026 NCAA national championship games, customers who bought furniture during a specified time period will receive those items for free.

The two teams don’t have to each actually win a championship, they just have to play in the title games. Given how successful the two teams have been, both this season and in the recent past, that may seem to Husky fans like a safe bet.

Currently, the UConn women’s team is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press national poll, a spot the 24-0 Huskies have held all year. UConn is the defending national champion, having won a record 12th title last year.

The men’s team is ranked No. 3 in the nation with a 22-1 record, with its only loss this year to top-ranked and undefeated Arizona. While UConn didn’t make the Final Four last year after losing to eventual champion Florida, it won back-to-back titles the previous two years and now has six overall.

The women’s team has beaten all but two opponents by 25 points or more, while the men’s team has won 18 games in a row.

To be eligible for free furniture, customers must make purchases at any Jordan’s location or online via jordans.com between Jan. 20 and Feb. 16. The retailer has stores in New Haven and Farmington.

Items bought outside of those dates are not eligible, so customers have less than two weeks left to participate.

The promotion does not include merchandise purchased at Jordan’s Colossal Clearance Center or service items, and other restrictions apply.

From a business perspective, these types of promotions are meant to boost sales during a specific window and get shoppers off the sidelines.

Companies usually plan for the risk ahead of time. They set limits on what qualifies and may use promotional insurance or other financial tools so the potential giveaway is treated as a marketing cost. If the teams don’t make the finals, the retailer keeps the extra sales. If they do, the company still benefits from the publicity and customer goodwill that can lead to repeat business.

The NCAA women’s Final Four is scheduled to be held April 3-5 in Phoenix, while the men’s Final Four will be held April 4-6 in Indianapolis.
