Ralph E. Jones III has been named president and chief operating officer of SPARTA Insurance Co. in Hartford. Most recently, he was president and chief operating officer at Everest Reinsurance Holdings.
Jones began his insurance career with Chubb & Son, becoming the chief underwriting officer for Europe, before becoming president of Chubb Europe. In 1997, he joined Hiscox, PLC where he held a position on the board and led their non-Lloyds business, Hiscox InsuranceCompany Ltd. In 1999, he became chief executive officer of Chubb Executive Risk which later became Chubb Specialty Insurance. In 2003, he joined Arch Worldwide Insurance where he spent the next five years as their chief executive officer.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and completed programs with Tuck School at Dartmouth and Harvard Business School.
SPARTA is an acronym for Specialty Program and Risk Transfer Alternatives and was formed in March 2007 as a property casualty underwriting company dedicated to customized, unbundled program solutions in the property and casualty marketplace in the United States.
