Johnson Memorial’s Morgan takes permanent CEO role

The Johnson Memorial Medical Center, which emerged from bankruptcy late last year, has removed the interim tag from CEO David R. Morgan’s title.

Morgan will now be the permanent president and chief executive officer of the Stafford Springs health care provider.

Morgan began his tenure at JMMC in 2008 as a consultant and in 2009 was named interim chief operating officer of the organization.

During those two years Morgan helped restructure the financial operations of JMMC, after the organization fell into bankruptcy in 2009.

Morgan was named interim president and CEO in May, after the sudden departure of Peter J. Betts.

Morgan is currently in the middle of exploring an affiliation between Johnson Memorial and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.

Johnson Memorial official’s announced earlier this year that the proposed affiliation would help the hospital maintain an inpatient hospital presence in north central Connecticut, expand clinical services, enhance physician retention and recruitment, and assist in the implementation of key capital projects.
