Johnson Memorial Hospital has reopened its doors after a power outage and back-up generator failure forced it to evacuate patients.
Johnson Memorial lost power Aug. 28 due to Hurricane Irene, and its back-up generator stopped functioning the same day.
That led senior management to decide to close the hospital and transfer all 43 patients to nearby hospitals.
At least 15 ambulance services and fire departments from as far as New Haven helped evacuate the patients and the state Emergency Operations Center also made resources available.
Hospital officials said all patients arrived safely at their destinations less than five hours after starting the evacuation.
Power was restored at Johnson Memorial at 7:15 p.m. Monday and the hospital opened its doors at 8:23 p.m. after getting clearance from the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
A temporary back-up generator has also been installed, tested, and is functioning normally.
