The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford named Connecticut United Way executive Michael Johnston of Wilton as its new president and CEO, effective Feb. 1.
Johnston, currently CEO of the United Way of Western Connecticut, succeeds Doreen Fundiller-Zweig, who retired in December after 18 years at the foundation’s helm.
 Before joining the nonprofit sector, Johnston spent 20 years in financial services. He holds an MBA as well as a masters of urban planning/economic planning from New York University. He has a BA is in political science from Drew University.
 Johnston is the sitting president of Temple B’nai Chaim in the Georgetown section of Fairfield County. He is a board member of the Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut, an advisory board member of the Drew University Center for Civic Engagement as well as an active volunteer in numerous social services agencies.
 Founded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford in 1972 and spun off as an independent entity in 1994, the Jewish Community Foundation currently has $78.5 million under management and awarded grants totaling $2.7 million in fiscal 2011.Â
