Jepsen asks gas stations to stop stocking synthetic drugs

Though synthetic marijuana and similar drugs are already illegal in Connecticut, Attorney General George Jepsen and 43 other states wrote a letter to nine major oil companies urging them to tell their retail franchisees to stop selling the substances.

The AGs want the companies to revoke franchise agreements from those who sell synthetic drugs and report the matter to law enforcement.

Jepsen wrote that emergency room trips because of the drugs, such as K2 or Spice, have climbed both in Connecticut and nationally over the past several years.

Connecticut outlawed the substances in 2012, joining a number of other states.
