Jenny Craig shuts down, closing 7 CT locations

Jenny Craig Inc., a weight-loss and nutrition business with about 500 locations in the United States and Canada, is shutting down, according to a report by NBC News.

NBC News said it obtained an email sent to employees late Tuesday that said the company will close “due to its inability to secure additional financing.”

Hourly employees were told their last day of work was Tuesday; salaried employees’ last day will be Friday, according to the report.

The Carlsbad, California-based company has seven locations in Connecticut, including Branford, Danbury, Fairfield, Manchester, Orange, Simsbury and Stamford.

Jenny Craig, owned by H.I.G. Capital, employed more than 1,000 people. It was founded in 1983 and endorsed by numerous celebrities, including Mariah Carey and Jason Alexander.
