Jefferson Radiology expands imaging network

Jefferson Radiology in East Hartford has expanded its medical imaging practice by acquiring a competitor’s two medical-diagnotics offices in Bloomfield and Granby.

Jefferson bought the offices, including equipment, for an undisclosed sum from Medical Imaging Center, which is shutting operations, said Paula Nevins, Jefferson’s senior director of marketing and business development.

With the acquisition, Jefferson operates nine outpatient imaging centers in central Connecticut and provides X-ray, MRI and other medical-diagnostic services to several hospitals in the region. It is the largest private radiology practice in Connecticut.

The expansion enhances Jefferson’s ability to deliver quality patient care in the region, Nevins said. Acquiring both offices fills a gap in Jefferson’s territory, she said.

In addition, Jefferson hired four Medical Imaging physicians and 25 of its employees, raising Jefferson’s staffing count to about 400, Nevins said.

Medical Imaging officials did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
