Jefferson Radiology has installed in its Farmington imaging facility its first automated ultrasound device for helping to screen dense breast tissue for cancer.
The machine built by U-Systems of Sunnyvale, Calif., will enable Jefferson radiologists to provide patients with technology to examine dense breast tissue more closely, said Paula Nevins, Jefferson’s senior marketing director.
The price of the machine was not disclosed.
Used in conjunction with traditional X rays, ultrasound devices use sound waves to screen breast tissue for cancer.
East Hartford-based Jefferson has nine radiology clinics in the Hartford area, two of which are devoted to women’s imaging.
