Bethel battery maker Duracell Inc. has hired superstar rapper Jay Z to promote its line of wireless power chargers for smartphones and other consumer electronics.
Thirteen-time Grammy-award winner Jay Z, nee Shawn Carter, will be the face and voice of the Duracell Powermat JV product line, Duracell says.
Duracell and Powermat Technologies announced their partnership last September to market small charging mats and receivers that wirelessly juice up cell phones and other small electronics.
Duracell owns 55 percent of the joint venture, Powermat the rest.
“We are proud to work with such an inspiring icon, whose music and success speaks to an entire generation all over the world,” Duracell CEO Ron Rabinowitz said in a statement. “Our common vision and voice will pave the way for the upcoming wireless power revolution.”
Duracell is a unit of consumer-products giant Procter & Gamble.
