JAX nets $5M gift

A Jackson Laboratory trustee and technology investor has donated $5 million to the bioscience research center to support genetic research in both Maine and Farmington.

David and Barbara Roux’s gift, which JAX will match dollar for dollar, will be used to establish the Roux Family Center for Genomics and Computational Biology.

David Roux is a co-founder and senior director of Silver Lake, an investment firm with $23 billion in assets under management.

The Roux Center will be endowed with three new faculty chair positions and a permanent staff recruitment fund.

“At a time when public funding for disease research continues to dwindle, David and Barbara Roux have stepped forward to make a truly inspirational statement about the importance of supporting the future of genomic medicine in the shared quest to improve human health,” Dr. Edison T. Liu, JAX’s president and CEO, said in a statement.
