Jax Lab hires data analytics provider for genetic tests

The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington has hired a San Francisco data analytics company to support its genetic-sequencing research, the companies announced.

Dr. Charles Lee, Jax’s chief science officer, said the multi-year agreement with CollabRx Inc. will help researchers arm doctors with meaningful analysis of a tumor’s molecular characteristics, which will help them develop treatment plans for their patients.

Lee was awarded a $7.5 million cancer genomics grant last year by the South Korean government.

CollabRx provides software to labs that helps them interpret, report and standardize the results of genetic sequencing tests, which produce vast amounts of data.

“While genetic sequencing-based tests are increasingly becoming an important part of the clinical management of cancer patients, the resulting explosion of data has outpaced the ability of practicing physicians to understand how to apply this genetic data in treating their patients,” Jax said in a statement.
