Connecticut added 4,000 jobs in January, an increase partly attributed to unseasonably warm temperatures that boosted construction work, the state Department of Labor said last week.
The jobless rate in January was 4.4 percent, an increase of about three-tenths of a percentage point over December. The national unemployment rate was 4.6 percent for January.
Employment in Connecticut totaled about 1.69 million, a gain of 16,000 jobs compared with the January 2006 figure, according to the labor department report.
The construction segment and the leisure and hospitality segment showed the largest gains, each up by 1,600 jobs.
Increases also were reported in the trade, transportation and utilities sector, up 900; government, up 700 jobs; educational and health services, up 300; and manufacturing, up 200.
Professional and business services declined by 900, while jobs in other services fell by 300 and another 200 jobs were lost in financial activities, state labor officials said.
