It’s All In The Numbers

There are the English people, the science people, the history people, and the math people. Every discipline has its followers.

Jeff Freyer is undoubtedly a math person and has been since school. The statistician recently took a job as vice president of business services at Comcast that will service Connecticut, western Massachusetts and New York.

“I’m a numbers guy and have always done well in math,” Freyer said. “I like it because math is a theoretical subject with real life solutions. It’s a discipline with real answers.”

The 35-year-old Voorheesville, NY native is now living in Rocky Hill while he decides the best place to settle.

“Connecticut is a place that has a lot of business and small business,” Freyer said. “In coming to Comcast and the business services market, I saw it as a growth opportunity as they expand their services.”

Freyer graduated with a degree in statistics from the University of South Carolina in 1995. He received a master’s degree in business statistics from the University of Tennessee in 1997. His first job was with AT&T Solutions working in client solutions and Freyer has since worked at MCI, Telcove and Level 3 Communications.

“I made the career move from Level 3 because of the certain phase of where Comcast is going,” Freyer said. “They are family-owned, a public company but the majority is owned by management. I wanted to make this career move to build a team, talk to businesses and chambers of commerce and be a part of the community.”

Freyer has already learned that in business services “there is not a carbon copy day.”

“I attend chamber meetings and organizations to get involved, offer small business service and focus our sales, coaching and interaction as well as recruiting to attract more talent in the business services sector,” he said.

Freyer is awaiting the future time when his work will start to make recognizable impact on Comcast’s business.

“I want to see the business flourish, and I have lots of time to see that happen,” he said. “I want to see the customers grow, people working with the right networks and hiring the right team. I want to help Comcast be a dominant player.”

Freyer applies his team-player mentality on the court when he plays on the Rocky Hill basketball league. That atmosphere is what Freyer has found at Comcast.

“With certain companies you see clouds hanging over people…they think they’ve ‘gotta’ go to work,” he said. “This is an energetic company, I can feel it, and I’m happy to be here.”
