IT jobs show growth in certain sectors

While the total number of Connecticut IT job openings fell slightly compared to May, June’s IT listings reflect an 8.3 percent increase in the specific demand for software development skills, according to the latest Skillproof report from the Connecticut Technology Council.

The July report found employers in the high-tech and banking industries were more actively seeking IT staff in June, while there were fewer IT healthcare positions advertised.

Employers posted a daily average of 470 job openings for IT professionals. This is 2.1 percent less than in May. There were some changes in the demand for occupations. The number of openings for skills in software development increased 8.3 percent while the posted need for architects/consultants dropped 11.1 percent over the past 30 days.

Looking at year-over-year changes (comparing June 2015 with June 2016) the Connecticut Technology Council found that the job openings in software development remained virtually the same. Job openings have declined for architects/consultants (down 46.7 percent), systems engineering/support (down 33.3 percent) and IT management (down 41.7 percent).
