IT job market shows slight decline

A new report by the Connecticut Technology Council shows the IT job opening market declined from April to May.

The Skillproof report for May said employers posted 480 daily job opportunities for IT

professionals with work locations in the state, down 2 percent from April. The postings are down 22.5 percent from May 2015’s 620 job postings.

That’s balanced against April payroll statistics from the state Department of Labor that show the information sector added 300 jobs. The financial-services sector, which employs many IT workers, added 700 jobs.

Advertisements by industry showed a mixed picture, the report said. While IT job postings declined in health care and IT services, the technology council found more job openings on websites of high-tech companies. Employers in financial services did not change their position.

The top 10 most sought after IT skills were:

  • Business Analysis
  • SQL
  • Oracle DBMS
  • Java
  • Large system technologies
  • Unix
  • Web Services
  • Linux
  • Windows OS
