IT giant HCL expects to add 500 new jobs in Hartford/CT over next 2-3 years

HCL Technologies, a global IT business that debuted its new Hartford location Nov. 12, plans to add 500 new jobs in Connecticut, including about 200 in the Capital City over the next two to three years, according to company officials.

HCL, which is based in India, is opening its “global delivery center” at 10 State House Square, a plan first announced pre-pandemic, in February 2020, due to Hartford’s proximity to a major client, tools and hardware manufacturer Stanley Black & Decker. The site is expected to expand operations to support customers in a number of fields, including manufacturing, aerospace, defense, insurance, life science and health care.

To that end, the company said it will be adding positions in augmented reality, infrastructure, information technology applications, digital workplaces, aerospace engineering and the internet-of-things.

HCL also said it plans to partner with local community colleges and universities to create new opportunities for college graduates and technology professionals just starting out in their careers.

“We are honored that HCL chose Connecticut to expand its presence in the U.S.,” Gov. Ned Lamont said in a statement. “The Hartford Center will bring new opportunities to our community and connect our talented workforce and future graduates with job opportunities in some of the fastest-growing industries.”

HCL has said its Hartford site will ultimately serve as the primary hub for its customers in the region. The center will include a manufacturing lab intended to showcase technologies from HCL and its various sectors.
