InterCommunity Mental Health Group Inc.

Mission: InterCommunity’s mission is to help people living with mental illness and/or addiction disorders improve their quality of life by providing opportunities for healing and recovery.

Background: The organization was founded in 1977 by three families who recognized the need for mental health services in the area. Since that time, the organization has grown to serve more than 1,800 people on an annual basis. Services include an outpatient adult clinic that provides individual, group and family therapy. Specialty areas provide trauma services and medication management, in addition to an intensive outpatient program. A psychiatric outpatient children’s clinic also provides individual and family therapy to children and youth.

Rehabilitation services include social and vocational rehabilitation programs, a supervised housing program and a community support team, which works in collaboration with clients to help them reach their goals.

A 24/7 crisis hotline service is also available as well as a nonemergency warmline service that is staffed by people in recovery.

Based on statewide satisfaction surveys, InterCommunity was named the state’s most improved outpatient clinic in 2008.

Major Fundraisers: Two key fundraising events will be the Laughter of Life in September 2009 at the Bushnell in Hartford and the Olde Wethersfield 5K Family Run/Walk in August 2009.

Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed for our Friend-To-Friend program, which matches community members with people in recovery. The program’s ultimate goal is to integrate those in recovery into the community and decrease their isolation. Other volunteers are needed on a consistent basis for various projects as well.
