InsurTech Hartford, an entrepreneurial promoter of startups in the insurtech field, named four companies as winners of its 2020 Innovation Challenge.
Winners include New Jersey-based Infiniquo Inc., which makes virtual training simulations; Tide Foundation, an Australian IT and tech services company; Cambridge, Mass.-based Hosta Labs Inc., which uses artificial intelligence to create floor plans; and Sigo Insurance Services LLC, a New York-based mobile-first car insurance company.
“The talent exhibited during this contest not only exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit, but it underscores the bright future of insurtech,” InsurTech Hartford founder Stacey Brown said in a statement.
This year’s Innovation Challenge was held online, due to social distancing measures necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies in the challenge were judged by 20 representatives from 10 insurance companies, according to InsurTech Hartford.
The announcement comes after Hartford InsurTech Hub announced its annual accelerator will not return in 2021 after the program concluded its third cohort in April.
The insurtech accelerator, run by London-based Startupbootcamp, was initially designed as a three-year program to lure new talent and technology to downtown Hartford for periods of three months with hopes they would establish a permanent presence in the state.Â
