Small business owners in Connecticut prioritize growth more than their national counterparts, and have taken more risks recently to achieve it, according to the Hartford Financial Services Group’s fourth annual hiring survey.
More than half of Connecticut businesses, 54 percent, said growth was their top priority, with 41 percent preferring to maintain their current size. Nationally, only 40 percent prioritized growth, with 53 percent wanting to stay the same size, according to the survey.
Nearly one-quarter of Connecticut small businesses said they had taken more risks over the past six months to achieve growth, compared to 16 percent nationally.
The property-casualty insurer also found that Hartford-area small businesses, 59 percent, were more likely to have hired over the past year than small businesses across the country, 30 percent.
