Insurer Travelers Cos. is warning couples who are planning their weddings that it pays to be insured.
The company offers wedding insurance, providing coverage for the cost of weddings that are disrupted or canceled by a variety of events.
Travelers says issues with event vendors is the most common cause of problems, accounting for 27% of all its paid claims.
Illness or injuries account for a further quarter of claims, with 22% being due to bad weather, and another 15% to property damage at a wedding venue.
“Soon-to-be-weds already have enough to worry about leading up to their big day,” said Deidre LeBlanc, head of specialty lines for personal insurance at Travelers. “By understanding the most common mishaps, they can be better prepared to handle unexpected challenges.”
Money Magazine pegs the average cost of a wedding in Connecticut at $39,000, compared with a national average of $30,000, making the state the seventh most expensive in the country.
