State insurance regulators ordered health and other insurers who made untimely claim payments or committed other violations to repay policyholders more than $1.3 million in the second quarter, the Insurance Department announced.
Insurers also paid $440,000 in fines to the state, which will be used for consumer outreach and education.
The department received more than 1,600 complaints and inquiries from April to June. The bulk of the figure — $818,000 — were related to health and accident insurance.
Regulators said they have recovered $3.4 million since the beginning of the year.
