Ingersoll to shut Bristol plant, idling 110

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies plans to permanently close its manufacturing plant in Bristol, costing 110 Connecticut residents their jobs.

The Indiana-based maker of commercial security equipment, which is a business segment of Ingersoll Rand Plc in Ireland, notified the state Department of Labor about the layoffs last week.

The company said it expects to begin phasing out operations at its facility at 575 Birch St., in the town’s Forestville section, beginning on or about July 6, and continuing through the end of the year.

About 110 employees will lose their jobs during the shutdown, the company told the state.

“The plant is being closed to improve the competiveness of the company’s products and is part of a broad-based plan to enhance the company’s manufacturing footprint globally to meet the demands of our customers while managing the challenges presented by today’s market,” Ingersoll said in a May 5 letter to the state DOL.

A company spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
