ING names four executives to U.S. units

ING Group NV, the Dutch bank and insurer with operations in Windsor, today named Rob Leary as CEO and Ewout Steenbergen as chief financial officer of its insurance unit in the United States.

Leary was previously CEO of ING Investment Management, Americas. He replaces Tom McInerney, who was earlier named chief operating officer of ING Insurance.

Leary will be one of six global insurance/investment management CEOs reporting to McInerney as part of ING’s new global insurance/investment management structure.

Leary’s role at ING Investment Management, Americas will be filled by Jeff Becker, previously, vice chairman, chief operating officer, and head of business management and strategy of the unit.

Steenbergen replaces David Wheat, who announced his retirement and plans to pursue other opportunities. Steenbergen was previously chief financial and risk officer for ING Insurance Asia/Pacific.

Van Hassel succeeds Jacques de Vaucleroy, who stepped down Oct. 26 to pursue other interests. Van Hassel joined ING in 2007 as CEO ING Investment Management Europe and will continue in that role until a successor is named, the company said in a release.

Prior to joining ING, Van Hassel was managing director and global head of technology and operations at JP Morgan Asset Management in New York. (AP)
