Maliz E. Beams has been named chief executive officer of the ING Retirement division in Windsor.
Starting Wednesday, Beams is in charge of dovetailing ING’s employer-sponsored retirement plan business with its individual retirement services operation.
Beams is replacing former CEO Catherine Smith, who resigned earlier this year to become Connecticut’s commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development.
She reports to Rob Leary, president and chief operating officer of ING U.S. Beams most recently was president and CEO of TIAA-CREF’s Individual and Institutional Services unit.
Beams has a degree in English from Boston College and an MBA in marketing and finance from Columbia University in New York.
She was among U.S. Banker magazine’s “25 Most Powerful Women in Finance” in 2008 and 2009, and has also been listed on Who’s Who of American Women.
