Indoor playground proposed for Bishops Corner in West Hartford

An indoor, sensory-focused playground and cafe for young children has filed an application with the West Hartford Town Plan & Zoning Commission seeking approval for a special permit to open this summer at Bishops Corner.

The applicant, West Hartford resident Sojung Jacobskind, is seeking the permit to operate a Little Wanderers facility at 2523 Albany Ave., a multiuse office building. The proposed 3,500-square-foot facility would serve children ages 0 to 7 and include structured camps and flexible drop-in child care services.

The application seeks approval as both an indoor recreation facility and a half-day summer camp. The building at 2523 Albany Ave. includes a variety of businesses, including a Bank of America branch and a Subway restaurant.

Jacobskind states that the concept is intended to support child development through hands-on sensory learning while providing flexible options for working parents.

If approved, she states, the facility could open in June or July 2026 and operate year-round.

It would accommodate up to 20 children at a time and is projected to average about 25 children per day. Separate areas would be designated for babies and toddlers, with soft climbing structures and natural wooden toys, while older children would have access to larger play equipment and rotating “sensory” stations.

In an email to Hartford Business Journal, Jacobskind said she expects to have one full-time and two part-time employees.

The Town Plan & Zoning Commission is expected to receive the application during its meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in town hall and is expected to schedule it for a public hearing in April.
