Illinois electric supplier expanding to CT

Illinois alternative electric supplier Nordic Energy Services announced its intention last week to expand into Connecticut.

The supplier said on Sept. 3 that it plans to operate in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, California and Michigan by the end of year.

Under Connecticut’s deregulated utility system, customers of electric utilities can choose an alternative supplier for the generation portion of their bills. Their bills still come from companies like Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating, but the generation rate is determined by the agreement between the customer and the alternative supplier.

Nordic currently supplies natural gas and electricity in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Maryland.
