Avon cooking products maker iDevices has recalled more than 49,000 of its food temperature probes because they pose an ingestion hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
IDevices probes have a plastic insulator inside them that is not heat resistant and can melt and fall into food, CPSC said. IDevices received 11 reports of the insulator melting, but no injuries were reported.
The voluntary recall involves all Pro Ambient Temperature Probes and Pro Meat Probes manufactured between May and June of this year. The probes were sold separately for about $25 or as an accessory for the company’s iGrill, iGrill2, and iGrillmini grilling thermometers, as well as its Kitchen Thermometer and Kitchen Thermometer mini products.
Nearly all of the recalled products were sold in the United States. Approximately 500 were sold in Canada.
