Hubbell Inc.’s long-time president and CEO David G. Nord plans to retire this fall, and a current member of the company’s executive staff will succeed him.
Nord’s retirement will be effective Oct. 1, when Gerben W. Bakker will take over Nord’s role at the Shelton-based manufacturing company, which makes electrical and electronic products. Hubbell reported $4.6 billion in 2019 revenues, and it has facilities around the globe.
To help ease the transition, Nord will continue to serve as executive chairman of the company’s board of directors until next May.
“I am proud of all that we have accomplished together during my tenure at Hubbell, and I am confident that this is the right time for this transition,” Nord said in an announcement.
Nord expressed confidence Hubbell will be in good hands under Bakker’s leadership, citing his vision and ability to deliver strong results.
“He is a strong, highly capable leader who I am confident will continue to build on a proven track record of success for Hubbell’s customers, shareholders and employees,” Nord said.

Anthony Guzzi, the company’s lead independent director, thanked Nord for his 15 years of service. Guzzi credited Nord with delivering strong financial returns for shareholders, leading the company through significant growth throughout his tenure, and most recently, guiding it through the COVID-19 crisis.
Bakker has been with the company for more than three decades, starting in 1988 as a manufacturing engineer and rising through the ranks. His most recent title has been president and chief operating officer, a position he has held since 2019.
“It is truly a privilege to be named to this position,” Bakker said in the announcement. “Throughout my more than 30-year career at Hubbell, I have experienced firsthand the strength of our people, products and long-term customer relationships. I look forward to building on the strong foundation that Dave established for Hubbell and continuing to deliver for Hubbell’s many stakeholders.”
