The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted to approve national park status for Hartford’s Coltsville neighborhood, Rep. John B. Larson announced.
The former home of gun maker Colt, which is now in West Hartford, Coltsville is anchored by the iconic blue dome atop the East Armory. Politicians have been trying to win national park status for the neighborhood for years. It won national historic landmark status in 2008.
The approval was tucked inside of a renewal bill for the National Defense Authorization Act, which details Department of Defense spending.
The U.S. Senate will vote on the measure next week, according to U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
