Hospital of Central Connecticut, Cigna contract deadline nears

The Hospital of Central Connecticut and Cigna are the latest hospital/insurer duo to clash over a new contract.

Clarence Silvia, the CEO of The Hospital of Central Connecticut (THCC) and Bradley Memorial hospital in Southington, recently sent a letter to patients warning them that the hospital’s contract with Cigna is set to expire Feb. 14 and both sides have been unable to reach a new agreement.

If the two sides don’t come to terms it could mean about 20,000 patients will face out-of-network prices.

Tough negotiations between health care providers and insurers are becoming the norm, as both sides are facing pressure to reduce costs.

Just last year, for example, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Hartford Healthcare had very public contract negotiations, but they eventually reached a deal.
