Hop growers to meet next week

The second meeting of the Connecticut Hop Growers’ Alliance will take place next week in Windsor, the Department of Agriculture said.

The group aims to become a nonprofit that sets quality standards, helps craft regulations and promote the hop-growing industry in Connecticut. Its members also hope to sell hops to Connecticut’s growing list of microbrewers.

The meeting will take place Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station at 153 Cook Hill Road in Windsor.

Hops enthusiast Vic Triolo is conducting hops research at the facility and another DOA station in Hamden. He is trying to determine which varieties of hopes work best in Connecticut’s climate and soil.
