A Bloomfield physician psychiatrist and her husband said they recently opened a BrightStar Care franchise in West Hartford.
Dr. Ayesha Ahmed and KC Chowdhury opened the in-home care franchise at 924 Farmington Ave., where they employ 25 nurses, caregivers and other staff, with hopes to double that number in the future.
The business will assist clients in identifying an appropriate in-home care provider.
BrightStar, which has more than 260 locations in the country, says a lack of clinical quality standards for homecare workers makes it challenging for families to choose a provider.
BrightStar nurses perform health and wellness evaluations on each client to help inform the selection process, and then track weekly reports from homecare providers working with their clients.
The company has other Connecticut franchisees in Windsor Locks, Milford, Norwalk, Danbury and Stamford, according to its website.
