Following a $1 million donation from property-casualty insurer Travelers Cos. and Travelers Championship golf tournament, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp said it has raised enough to rebuild following a fire.
Earlier this month a fire tore through the Ashford-based camp for children coping with cancer or other serious illnesses, destroying a number of buildings on the campgrounds. Travelers and the Travelers Championship donation matched about $1 million raised from about 3,300 individuals.
“We are deeply grateful,” camp CEO Jimmy Canton said of the thousands of individuals who also donated after the fire. “We also want to express our heartfelt thanks to Travelers and the Travelers Championship for their extraordinary $1 million match.”
Additionally, Newman’s Own Foundation donated $1 million to the camp in the wake of the fire. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded in 1988 by the late actor Paul Newman, the Newman’s Own Foundation’s namesake.
“It is because of this incredible support that we can now focus our efforts on rebuilding,” Canton said.
