A church property on one of Hartford’s most prominent residential streets has been listed for sale as a potential redevelopment opportunity, including multifamily housing.
The 4.36-acre property at 235 Scarborough St., in the city’s West End, includes a 13,000-square-foot Colonial Revival church building constructed in 1956.
The property is owned by the First Church of Christ Scientist and has been listed for $1.87 million by real estate advisory firm Goman + York Property Advisors.

According to listing marketing materials, the property offers potential for continued institutional use or redevelopment. Possible uses include preserving it as a house of worship or community center, or converting the site into townhomes, apartments or a small residential community.
The parcel, surrounded by large historic homes, features multiple access points and open green space. It sits near Elizabeth Park and the West Hartford line, with access to Interstates 84 and 91.
It represents the latest in a series of Connecticut church properties to hit the market in recent years amid shrinking congregations and strong demand for adaptive reuse opportunities, particularly multifamily development.
