The new owners are an architect and landscape architect, according to a broker involved in the deal.
Hamden’s historic old firehouse building on Putnam Avenue has been sold for $480,000.
The building — located at 39 Putnam Ave., and known as Old Station 3 — dates back to 1925. It ceased being used as a firehouse in 1970.
The buyer was JaneP Firehouse LLC, which is controlled by Anne and Jeromy Powers, state records show. The new owners are an architect and landscape architect, according to broker Stephen Press of Press|Cuozzo, who handled the sale along with Arnold J. Grant Associates.
The seller was 39 Putnam Avenue LLC, which is controlled by Frank Poole. He owned the building since 2004 — when he bought it for $275,000, property records show — and used part of it as a commercial photography studio.
The 7,200-square-foot building has also housed pottery, yoga and dance studios. It still features two bowling lanes in the basement that hosted an active local bowling league in the 1950s.
The property attracted considerable interest due to its architectural character, strategic location and potential for adaptive reuse, according to Press.
“We’re excited to see what comes next for the building,” he said. “It was important to find the right buyer who appreciates the value of its history and the potential for its future.”
