HIMC volunteers at Grace Academy

Hartford Investment Management Company employees volunteered an afternoon of service to work and share their expertise with students at Grace Academy in Hartford. HIMCO President Brion Johnson and a team of HIMCO employees and seventh graders, shown in the photo above, spent time gardening at Grace Academy’s new Gratitude Garden.

During the day of service, HIMCO employees also hosted a financial career seminar with eighth graders, explaining the world of investments and how to pursue a career in finance.

The Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth and Family Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support its Teen Incentive Program, which benefits underserved teenagers from Hartford’s Clay-Arsenal and Upper Albany neighborhoods. The goal of Y-TIP is to break the cycle of poverty for as many teens as possible by saving lives, building dreams, inspiring learning, and providing impoverished teens with the skills needed to compete in the global marketplace.

Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut raised nearly $150,000 at its 37th Annual Golf Tournament at Shelter Harbor Golf Club.

The proceeds will benefit the medical and rehabilitation services that Easter Seals provides to individuals with intellectual and development disabilities.

To date, the tournament has raised over $1.7 million and helped more than 52,000 patients and their families to support essential programs that assist clients to live productive and independent lives.

The YMCA of Greater Hartford’s Power Scholars Academy received a $7,500 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank. The Y-Bell Power Scholars Academy aims to increase academic achievement for students in grades K-5. The program served over 250 students in Hartford and East Hartford this past summer.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford received a $3,000 grant from Buffalo Wind Wings for its All Stars football program this fall. The grant also includes team jerseys and access to resources from the National Alliance for Youth Sports, which provides education and training programs for administrators and volunteer coaches to use across all team sports programs. The All Stars program motivates kids to lead a healthy lifestyle through team sports while building good sportsmanship.
