HHS awards $3.2M to CT health centers for oral health services

Nine health centers in Connecticut will share $3.2 million in federal funding to increase access to integrated oral healthcare services and improve oral health outcomes for Health Center Program patients.

The announcement was made last week by Sylvia M. Burwell, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services secretary.

Connecticut funding recipients are:

Charter Oak Health Center Inc. in Hartford, $524,999; Community Health and Wellness Center of Greater Torrington Inc., $350,000; Connecticut Institute for Communities Inc., Danbury, $350,000; Cornell Scott-Hill Health Corp., New Haven, $350,000; Fair Haven Community Health Inc., New Haven, $350,000; Generations Family Health Center Inc., Willimantic, $200,000; Norwalk Community Health Center Inc., Norwalk, $350,000; Staywell Health Care Inc., Waterbury, $350,000; and United Community Services Inc., Norwich, $338,803.

Nationwide, nearly $156 million in funding will support 420 health centers in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The awards from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will allow health centers across the country to increase their oral health service capacity by hiring approximately 1,600 new dentists, dental hygienists, assistants, aides and technicians to treat nearly 785,000 new patients, according to an HHS news release.
