Hartford HealthCare on Wednesday unveiled its new downtown Hartford ideation lab called “Launch,” where it hopes startups and other businesses will meet with HHC clinicians and care professionals to brainstorm and collaborate.
The 1,000-square-foot space is located within Hartford HealthCare’s new headquarters at 100 Pearl St.
Barry Stein, HHC’s vice president and chief clinical innovation officer, said the space is available to startups and innovative companies looking to work with HHC.
“This space is created to garner new ideas and solutions,” Stein said. “It’s a modern shared workspace with comfortable chairs and desks and a colorful space, with comfortable couches, modular tables, touch-screen computers and white boards.”
There is no charge for companies to use the space, he said.
To date, Stein said, HHC has been collaborating with about 10 startups and other companies in the healthcare and finance fields.
Among the startups that will use the space and continue to collaborate with HHC is IBEX, an Israel-based company. IBEX is working on AI and machine-learning to help pathologists find cancer cells on cancer slides.
HHC is also collaborating with H20, a company it started with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that develops algorithms with the goal of improving the efficiency and operations of the healthcare system.
