Hartford’s public schools and the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut said they’ve launched a certification program to prepare some teachers to become principals.
The program, called Preparing Leaders for Urban Schools, is designed to address competencies and challenges specific to Hartford schools. It launched in August with a cohort of nine students selected through a competitive process.
“Hartford Public Schools asked each principal in the district to nominate people in their building who had strong leadership potential and who would be good candidates for the program,” said Casey Cobb, educational leadership department head at Neag.
Graduates of the PLUS program will be eligible for administration positions at Hartford schools.
