Hands On Hartford is mulling ideas for the best reuse of the former Spaghetti Warehouse property for which the nonprofit recently paid $1.8 million, its leader says.
The 45-year-old organization originally formed as Center City Churches bought the idle 22,000-square-foot building at 45-55 Bartholomew Ave., off Park Street, in the city’s Parkville neighborhood, Executive Director Barbara Shaw said.
Ideas include centralizing there many of Hands On’s various services, a volunteer action center and offices currently scattered sites in and around downtown Hartford, Shaw said.
The building has largely been vacant since the Dallas, Texas, chain that owned it shuttered its first and only Connecticut location in 1996.
After it shut, the site operated briefly as a nightclub and a brewhouse-restaurant.
Hands On Hartford is an affiliate of nonprofit Hands On Network, which provides direct services to people in need by promoting civic engagement and volunteerism.
