Federal worksite regulators said they have fined Hartford foam board manufacturer Gilman Brothers Co. more than $105,000 for safety hazards at its plant.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said it conducted two inspections this year, during which it found that Gilman failed to inspect or test process equipment. That included a tank containing the flammable and hazardous chemical isopentane, which can burn the skin and eyes. That violation accounted for the largest portion of the fine, $53,900.
OSHA said the rest of the fines related to incomplete safety process documentation, unsafe forklift operation procedures and lack of readily available fire extinguishers.
