Hartford area home sales hit the brakes in November, falling 7 percent in what realty sources say is the typical seasonal doldrums in home buying during the frigid holidays. Median prices also dipped.
Closings on single-family houses in the Greater Hartford region dropped to 735 units last month, down from 793 in November 2012, according to the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors.
However, 2014’s sales potential appears headed for a strong start. The pipeline of dwellings under contract but not closed climbed 16.5 percent in November to 729 houses vs. 626 pending sales the same month last year.
The median price of a home sold last month slipped to $202,000 — $13,000 below the median for year-earlier November sales.
Condo sales, meanwhile, also fell 10 percent to 181 closings last month vs. 201 a year ago, the association said.
Median condo sale prices eased 1 percent to $149,000 from $150,000.
